Hiya Calisqo ^_^. It's been a very long time indeed since I last heard from you. I guess you don't feel up to writing on MT anymore. It's too bad, because it seems like a lot of people I have met on MT aren't around much anymore.

But if you still browse the galleries, you might be interested in knowing that I got another painting up the other day. You can find it here, and if you feel up to commenting I'd certainly love to read it.

Take care, and I hope you're doing well ^_^.

Quote by calisqoHi there MENTIS!

Sorry for taking so long to reply.

Hiya Cal-san ^_^. Nice to hear from you again. It's been a long time...

We were away for an anime convention last week, so that's why you haven't heard back from me. It was a lot of fun, and I even wrote up a report on it with pictures and the whole bit. If you're curious you can see it right here. Your feedback is of course always appreciated :D.

Quote: Thanks for dropping by on the GB; I wouldn't have known you've visited if someone didn't tell me about that.

I haven't been on MT lately.... Well not just lately, it's been a while now, maybe like a year or so, but I do return occasionally, once in a while. I have full time job in architecture for a while now (it's demanding and boring) and on top of that I still have my UNI to finish. Last year was so crazy that I decided to cut down on my MT-time.

I know how it is. I don't get to visit MT that often these days either. Not only am I working all the time, but I'm also running that blog of mine (mentisworks.org). Not to mention all the other forums I'm trying to keep up with, which is pretty hard :P.

Last year I wasn't on MT much because I was away traveling, and had very limited internet access most of the time. But since last fall I've been trying to visit occasionally and keep up with my notifications at least :P.

Quote: But it's always nice to see some senior MT members still rockin', it's keeping the spirit alive.
Nice works btw, wish I could go each and every works in details, I enjoyed them.
I reviewed your older ones hope you don't mind, didn't know it was there. Mt has changed quite a lot. So it's kind of hard to navigate my way around MT nowadays. Well I must say , after seeing your paintings kind of re-awaken the creative side of me, makes me wanna do stuff like that. Keep those works coming keep the scene alive.

Well till then, hope everything is going alright with you, and hope to see more of those interesting works.
Until then...

Thank you very much for your kind words ^_^. Of course I don't mind if you comment on my older work. You can go and comment on all of the if you really want to XD ha ha. I'm happy to hear that you have been inspired by my work. I don't get that too often, so it's nice when it happens :D.

Quote by mentisThere is something about the first time that you simply cannot reproduce

That is deep, I personally like what you said.

Wish it can be captured or preserved somehow. Perhaps you did it within this piece? (but only you know I guess)

To me this piece of work, is rather esoteric, it is quite hard, as an outsider to fully grasp the intended idea within this piece of work. To me this work is very personal to only yourself, it leaves little or no clues of what was intended (or at least to me). And most importantly what it means to the artist himself.

In term of composition it is rather unusual, as here I found myself searching for something to focus on. All was laid bare and equal, I guess that was intended from the 3 you have watched, like you said memento of the threes being all equal, I guess that part makes sense.

As a fan of expressive paintings, I really like the color blend in between the brown and the red, the textures from the wood grains added a nice touch to the whole thing.

Overall an interesting piece as usual

I think I did okay in trying to capture the feelings I had at the time. That was my primary goal, to express some of the emotions I felt from watching those anime. Though I probably could have done better, it was a good effort.

Though you are right in that it is esoteric, both in the context of the words' common usage, as well as in the context of esotericism. I doubt that anyone looking at this will automatically understand something of its inner nature. But I do believe that should a person choose to repeat the experience that I had, watching those three anime one after the other over the course of just several days, and then look at this painting, that person would indeed understand a great deal.

As such, you might call this an experiential work. Meaning that it can only be understood on the basis of particular experience.

Quote by calisqoIt has such intense emotion from it.
At a glance, I couldn't really guess whether the character was a male or a female.
To me it has that ambiguous sense of both masculine and feminine qualities to it. Not until I read through the description that it became clear to me as to the reason why the character has such qualities. It feels to me the masculine part of the character speaks of revenge while the feminine part speaks of being loyal to the deceased husband. I personally think this idea is rather interesting, I am not sure if this was intended.
The character intense expression really shows this tragic dilemma in my opinion, I wonder if thereâ s another possible way to avoid the use of generic connotation (tears). Though I must say, although it is somewhat generic to my liking, the execution of the intended expression is certainly flawless.
The calm and rather flat tones (in my opinion) really help to bring this idea you were trying to illustrate. I feel that this color tones, have significant impact in bringing the sorrow out of the character. It is simple and not overpowering .
Overall interesting piece of work, I would have never thought to use an anime character as a subject for a painting.

well it deserved to be in Elite Gallery, btw did you scan this or photographed it?

Thank you again. Your comments are certainly some of the most insightful I have had the privilege to read. You are correct in that I intended to infuse the work with a great deal of ambiguity. For someone who knows nothing of the story behind the painting or character it's based on, I believe the interpretations of what is going on would be incredibly varied.

One of the things that I focus on in my work is the power of such images. Yet I try to use this as an opportunity to explore the source of such power. I try to present that same opportunity to my audience. Even though the concept of a tear may be generic, as you have observed, the execution was intended to be anything but. At this time all these efforts are focused on representational imagery, but I am anticipated a slow shift away from that, yet in keeping with the anime style. That is my resolution at any rate.

You may be interested to know that this piece has already sold. It was sad to see her go, but as a result I was asked to paint another piece. It's already up on MT, though I don't think it's quite as strong as the first. Still, I do like it. You can see that painting here. Hope you like it too ^_^.

Well, I think that's about enough writing for now. Thanks for your comments and replies, I very much appreciate your support. Take care...

Quote by calisqoLooks good.
Seems like someone been practicing hard XD

Like the improvements here.
It's a long way back from the last one.
Here i see improvements in the fold-lines in the clothings, shadowing, and overall massing of the character.
It starting to show some depth and dimension to the character.

The stance looks convincing . though I'm not too sure with her right leg.
I feel that it is too closely drawn to the head.
I do like the expression on her face as well as her hair. It kinda work well with the stance. The hair kinda helps explain what she's doing

Nice work overall and good job on taking difficult stance.
Keep it up

Thanks for that ^^ A few problems i'll fix in future doujins See ya

Quote by calisqonice work i guess.
I like the grunge work on the bg.
Though i'm not entirely agree with the black strip on the top right corner, I think it's a distraction for the grunge composition.

The caracther looks alright i guess.
Though i think it'll benefit from some more shadowing , refining the line thickness will definitely bring more depth to it.
Well the psoture looks fine, could do a littlebit more refining.

But nonetheless a nice work.
Keep it up

Hey Cal, thanks for that, I'll remove the stripes and add shadows to it.

Quote by calisqoWow nice.
What a nice surprise.

I see a lot of things have been improved.
From the proportion , shadowing , and this char has more style than those you've drawn before .
It reminds me of Blue Mary form KOF in a way.
personally like the costume for this char looks good .
Shadowing is really nice too.

Nothing much to comment on ,but perhaps line weight will improve the drawing.
Like the outline , perhas play with different thickness of strokes all.

Overall impressive

Che' Bo
I've had some more practice on shading and proportions

Quote by calisqonice to see improvement in the characther's looks.
it has gotten funkier since the last time.
the pose looks quite challenging, not sure if you have excuted it to the way you wanted it to be. perhaps pay more attention on the folds on her legs, it'll give more definition to where she stands , and the depth of the drawing.

my question is now, where does your characther stands among other styles?
Is it a chibi characther ? or something else?

other than that good work.

Well... it's somewhere in the middle of chibi and normal... But for reasons I do not know, I seem to keep doing it this way.
Yeah... The leg may seem a bit awkward, facing away from the audience kinda? Anyway, thanks for your comment... appreciated.
I'll work more on fold marks

Simple clean and expressive.
Like the style and the bunny design.
Really cool.

Calisqo,

I know how difficult it must have been to contact you or even reach you as of late. Surely, work does have a higher priority in life, and I really wish you the best of luck in all your recent successions thus far. I am very confident that all things will pay off accordingly at the end.

As for me, I have actually spent some time developing on my 10th Official Wallpaper as a matter of fact, this one entitled Natsumi. It's a fairly simple wallpaper, the third "unprofessional" design of its kind [its purpose, just for intrigue], and all I did was work on my special touching / brushing techniques on the scan to make the surrounding background look just as bright and purely delightful as ever. Of course, the wallpaper does not look close to its original form. **Snickers** A slice of the presence of beauty if I may shortly recall.

Well, I hope I do have the chance to see you later on this week, or this month perhaps. It truly has been a while. Take care now.

Quote by calisqoI've been a bad apple lately. Baaaaaad! XD

My my! Calisqo, have you been behaving well while I was gone for a while? lol **Scrolls back down to what she had already posted in the past** Oh my, I can't believe that after a month, I'd still be chatting to you right about now. I mean, when I come to think about it, our Instant Messaging conversations have truly gotten a whole lot better, although I should really feel guilty about myself being able to talk to you when you were probably already too busy in a sense. School is more important to you right now, and I should have simply fit in to take part of the blame for making you slack off nowadays. **Giggles** Is my pics. distracting you a little too much? Is that why you have been giving me those awful silly looks as of late? Oh dear, oh my.

**Jumps on the button as something popped up right in front of her screen** It's her! Yuki! Guess what my best friend just sent me two minutes ago.

Quote: Warning! This picture is not my own and contains graphical content unsuitable for all ages.

>> I'm sorry if I have posted this in advance - I never meant to post it in the first place, really, but seemingly since I know you are the type of person who was always bound to be curious, I did it on your behalf. Go figure.

http://img475.imageshack.us/img475/8869/hmmz5vd.jpg

Mind my manners. I know its quite a rude picture over here, but I have to admit it is quite cute. **Snickers** Tsuji, why now? Shame on you! **Shrugs** Wow, oh my - I can recall who that person is right away, too. How interesting, nonetheless... I guess I really am back in the swing of things. Mwahaha!

And on a slightly different topic, I researched a bit on Yuna Ito and realized she had never released an album quite as of yet. **Bites off her pocky** Grr... and she was one of the most recent and hottest J-Pop Female Artists I've ever had the chance to look at, over here. Why isn't she up on the top of the charts? I really have to admit, her style is so good, indeed. **Nods** She truly deserves much better.

Hmm... I might as well show off some avatars I like to share over on your page. If you don't have much time to look it over, then you don't have to comment back. I'm sure we can do that over on the Instant Messanger later on this month whenever you have the time to come down and say your little usual greetings, of course. Oh yeah, and you told me you had the card while I was gone out shopping that day. For me, I printed it and played it with the rest of my deck, to be all honest with you. To win in just 5 measly turns - cheap! lol - Too bad he wasn't indestructable, though. **Grins all of a sudden** In any case, the theme remains. Hail to the Chillaxing King! Hahahaha!

Oh right, the avatars. Sorry, sorry! Gomen sai~!

Well, I did remind myself just a little earlier that I promised to send you a picture while you were down there at home, busily doing your work / studies.

I tried to come up with a picture not too controversial in tastes towards the general indivduals through my own opinion, yet somehow has enough flexibility to give off that little intriguing look of hers that might just be worth jotting down some noteables about her beauty around here.

And then I double-searched on the term "Daybreak." As expected, it did originate from Ayu herself, as I was reassured that even though the source could have hidden itself away from ever being found on my old hard drive I have placed into another PC over here, technically I also could recall from my vast general J-Pop knowledge that I did hear her sing that song before. Just to let you know - but it always seems to have bothered me: was that the main reason why that person chose that kind of ... well... err... I won't mention anymore. I think you got a pretty good idea what I was about to say next. lol

Wow, look at the time. I suppose I better head out now.

Here's the picture I was talking about. I tried attempting to retouch on her a bit, but then I realized it was getting late and that I was supposed to show up for my orientation meeting tomorrow morning. Oh well, c'est la vie, I suppose. Pardon me for the rush, but here you go.

Oyasumi, Calisqo-san! **Waves her ornamental fans in swift succession** Good luck there, on your school work! Hope that the people around the computer lab doesn't bother to take a peek on this picture I presented here. Now that'll be a first. Haha! **Giggles** Take care**

What's up, Calisqo?

Just telling you straight off the bat, I won't be around for a long time next month. I have to get back to working and start living on my very own, you know.

And yeah, I know what you'll say. lol - Too bad my "chillaxing" days are all over now, but who knows? **Giggles** Hopefully, my BA degree will work wonders for me over here.

Take care, Sir Cali, and sorry to keep this message short. Remember to remind me about Yuna Ito's upcoming albums whenever I have the chance to actually come back to see you this April or May. My PC will be running definitely, by then - so you know what that means - an all you can download buffet! Oh my gosh, I can't wait! **Squeals**

I have to go now! Farewell!

By the way, on a recent survey, did you know that 44% of teenage girls in Japan between the ages of 15 - 25 are openly looking to date? Now's your big chance! lol - Don't you dare disappoint me when I do come back and you end up with clearly nothing at all, you know. **Snickers** If only the girls you idolized were a bit younger - now that'll be Calisqo's dream wish come true. Oops, I said too much now. Hehehehe! **Runs away**
